Last week, 30 newly-built chain Internet cafes run by Shanghai Telecom were unveiled, marking the first time that the telecom industry has moved their business into this field.
An official with Shanghai Telecom stated that a single set of management policies will be applied to the Internet cafes, with each location providing uniformly high quality services, using uniform logos and having a uniform environment.
Part of the company's "green power" project — initiated by China Telecom, parent company of Shanghai Telecom, with the aim of bringing Chinese Internet cafes a standardized management and a healthy development mode — the chain of cafes is expected to help Shanghai Telecom extend its broadband services and serve as bases for new types of Internet services such as e-commerce and online games.
A total of 100 cafes are planned by the end of this year.
