It is being reported that a small scale forum on the Linux standard and government procurement was held yesterday under the sponsorship of the China Electronic Information Industry Development Institute and the China Software Industry Society.
The main topic was the discussion of Linux standards under four aspects: Technology, Application, Government Procurement, and Talent Training. In addition, the State Standard Working Team has completed four draft regulations on Linux: the Application Programming Interface (API) Regulation, Desktop Operation System Technical Regulation, Server Operation System Technical Regulation, and User Interface regulation. Opinions from the public are being requested.
For the time being, since most elements of Linux technology come from other countries, China still has to follow the international standards. It will take some time before China is finally able to develop a mature standard of its own, at which point it will feel it has become a formal member of the Linux standard community.
