Tsinghua Tongfang signed an intentional agreement of strategic cooperation with Viacom. Inc, the media and entertainment magnate, on March 20, symbolizing the company's formal entry into the media industry.
Tsinghua Tongfang has already become a pioneer in China's digital TV equipment industry, but the company has been determined to develop into the media industry itself. Tongfang has been issued a network TV station license by the government, allowing it to broadcast educational programs–it is expected that the first project on which the two parties will cooperate will be Viacom's English teaching program for children.
