It has been announced at the 2004 International Forum on LED & Semiconductor Lighting that one of China's four light-emitting diode (LED) industrial bases will be set up in Zhangjiang High-tech Park in Pudong New Area, with the base expected to become a new economic growing point for Shanghai.
It is anticipated that the plant will create a sale volume of 1.5 to two billion yuan by 2006. By 2010, it is estimated that Shanghai's LED sector will generate a sales volume of 10-12 billion yuan, and earn US$ 300 million to 500 million forex through exports. LED is a leading technique in lightening industry. The brightness of a four-watt LED equals 30-watt incandescence, while its operational life is 50 times longer than a incandescence.
