Sohu.com's financial results for the first quarter of 2004, which ended March 31, were reported today. The Chinese web portal downplayed gains earned from mobile value-added services and instead showed a 146% increase on advertising revenue.

During a financial quarter that saw the company slapped with a Wells Notice from the SEC and greater competition from portal rivals in China, Netease.com managed to scrape together a 66.8% increase in revenue year-over-year and 15.5% quarter-over-quarter to CNY186.8 million (US$22.6 million).

Sina.com grew net revenues this last quarter by 128.5% year-over-year to a record $41.4 million. Non-advertising revenues for the quarter grew by 161.4% year-over-year and accounted for 68.3% of total revenues. The company made the announcement yesterday for the first quarter ending March 31, 2004.
