It is being reported in the local press that CNNIC and other related departments are actively proposing that the State lift restrictions on the registration of CN domain names so that individuals can freely have their own domains.
According to CNNIC, China's CN domain names have grown dramatically in the past years. However, due to the State policy forbidding individuals to register CN domain names, many users have been pushed to the foreign-based COM domain system, which, CNNIC argues, does no good to either the State domain name management or information safety, hence the proposed cancellation.
