In response to Japanese concerns that China will develop an "Asian Version of Linux" and has made a 200-page long Linux Development Plan, concerned officials from the Ministry of Information Industry of the People's Republic of China made an announcement denying the fact.
An MII official said China indeed wants to set up a team to draft Linux standards, but the team is still being organized and the development work is far from being started.
At the same time, Chris Zhao, Vice-CEO of Zhong Ke Hong Qi, China's largest Linux developer pointed out it's unlikely China will make a regional Linux standard since the country has been encouraging international cooperation in making standards. He also cited the Asianux project co-authored by Zhong Ke Hong Qi and Miracle Linux Oracle as an example.
