China is beginning to face a serious shortage in Internet resources.
During the China Internet Conference held on September 1, a representative from the Ministry of Information Industry remarked that China has to make a strategic adjustment to the way it manages IP addresses so as to earn an advantageous position in the distribution of next generation Internet resources.
He said that in order to achieve such an end, all enterprises should be encouraged to apply for IP addresses at APNIC via several major units. In so doing, it is expected that the amount of IP addresses will be increased and the application cost will be lowered.
At the same time, he pointed out that China should promote and popularize its own Chinese domain names to enhance its competitiveness.
