Zhang Ying, the newly appointed CEO of 21CN, has gone on record as saying that the Internet in China is "overflowing" with violence, pornography, and other illegal activities.
As a result, he says that his company will begin to carry out a large scale "network cleaning" to optimize the website content and products, and to greatly reduce irksome advertisements such as pop-ups and floating ads.
Meanwhile Zhang also declared that the company will continue to commit itself to the entertainment industry and expects to become the largest entertainment portal in China. One thing stands to 21CN's advantage perhaps more than anything else–it is one of the few sites that have not been listed on China Mobile and China Unicom's punishment lists this year.
