During the National Day holiday, a type of mobile phone designed specifically for children appeared unannounced in Guangzhou.
The new kind of mobile phone differs from those used by adults in that it has no numeric keys, and the settings are all very simple so that children can easily use it. One of the main selling-points is that is has an inbuilt positioning function that enables parents to find out where their children are at any time.
Although the mobile phone is expected to increase the safety of children in crowded areas, its very existence is an issue being hotly argued by parents and teachers. The concern is that owning a mobile phone at an early age will have a bad effect on a child's growth.
