Chinese media are reporting that the world's largest online book seller, Amazon.com (AMZN), is eager to build a powerful procurement platform suited to Joyo.com, an online shopping service provider in China which Amazon acquired not long ago.
Amazon has focused on Xinhua Publishing Group, predominantly an offline seller of publications in China, to help in these matters. Amazon has sent staff to four Xinhua branches, including those in Liaoning and Jiangxi provinces, to discuss possible cooperation.
Amazon's efforts, as expressed in local media by Mr. Chen Nian, vice president of Joyo, are expected to make Joyo grow faster by virtue of its relationship with Xinhua Group. But at present, the detailed means for the cooperation have not been finalized and no written agreement has been signed.
Xinhua Bookstore's have been in the news recently as Tom Online (TOMO) have also expressed interest in either purchasing the Chinese State-run publishing behemoth or closely partnering with organization.
