Top management of China's Shinco Electronics disclosed in Beijing yesterday that because they have earned no profits from the normal DVD export market, the company will cease its DVD production endeavors by the end of the year.
A company spokesman explained that a traditional DVD is sold for only $29 in the United States. And after the $10 patent fee is paid for each DVD, there is no profit left for manufacturers like Shinco.
Shinco will instead focus on the liquid crystal display export market. It plans to manufacture mobile DVD appliances that combine EVD technology with liquid crystal displays.
