According to the Internet Society of China (ISC), 1129 pornographic web sites have been closed by the Ministry of Public Security since July, when the crackdown began.
On June 10, the ISC opened a website at www.china.cn for netizens to report illegal online content. ISC says that site has already received 95,000 reports of sex-related and other illegal web sites and it was through these reports that the Public Security was able to track and close the sites.
With many pornography sites now shut, Xinhua says the government is now focusing on closing websites engaged in gambling and superstitious activities. In China, superstitious activities can involve information about the banned Falungong sect.
