Chinese search engine Baidu.com and China Telecom Yellow Page have announced a strategic partnership to combine Baidu's advanced search technology with China Telecom's business listing database to produce a local search product.
Baidu has seen an increasing trend in location specific queries from its users, and expects to see a continuation of such trend as well as an increase in the use of Baidu's existing PDA and WAP-based mobile search function once Yellow Page's business listings are successfully incorporated in Baidu's search index.
The Baidu-China Telecom partnership is expected to expedite the development of local search as well mobile search in China.
