Du Yuejin, deputy chief engineer from the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT/CC), says more computers on the mainland are being turned into "zombie" computers by hackers. These zombies are then used to launch illegal online activities.
Though Du has no figures on the amount of computers currently affected in China, he says it is a large problem and technicians at CNCERT/CC are fighting to find the criminals who seize the computers to use them as bases for illegal online activities.
In the local media, Du calls upon Chinese netizens to help find the culprits and to be wary about downloading and installing new software. Du says his organization is working with the local public security bureaus and international anti-spam and anti-hacker organizations to find the source of these troubles.
