Longteng has plans to build a next-generation liquid crystal display (LCD) factory near Shanghai. This will be the third LCD factory in the country, and it is expected that US$6 billion will be invested in the project.
An official from the Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone says that the LCD plant, which is to be run by Longteng, is an hour away from Shanghai and will require an investment of US$600 million in the startup period.
The factory will be used to produce big-screen TVs and TFT LCDs used on computer monitors.
At present, China has had two TFT LCD factories. One is a JV between Shanghai Media Group and NEC. The other belongs to BOE.
