Group Says Yahoo Helped Jail Man

Reporters Without Borders has issued a statement blaming Yahoo (YHOO) for helping Chinese authorities find and jail a writer who wrote about press restrictions.

Reporters Without Borders said in its statement, "Does the fact that this corporation operates under Chinese law free it from all ethical considerations?"

Court papers apparently showed that Yahoo gave Chinese investigators information that helped them trace an email that originated from a Yahoo account to a specific computer.

Shi, a former journalist for Contemporary Business News, was sentenced in April to 10 years in prison for illegally providing state secrets to foreigners.

Other technology companies like Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT), and Cisco (CSCO) have also faced accusations of cooperating with Chinese authorities to suppress freedoms.
