52 China Unicom (CHU) affiliated shop outlets in Beijing have been stripped of their business licenses by the Department of Industry and Commerce for failure to undergo yearly inspections.
Most of the stores punished share one legal owner, which is an illegal business structure for this type of entity in China.
China Unicom says these stores are not solely owned by itself, and instead they are run in cooperation with other private companies.
Altogether, 852 enterprises in Beijing received the same punishment in the latest crackdown. Most of these enterprises are from the technology, consulting, decoration and catering industries.
