A man surnamed Chen has sued Netease (NTES) because the website published his private love letters on its website. Chen is asking for an apology and one yuan for emotional compensation.
Chen is a manager of a company in Xi'an. He said a colleague of his company who was helping him move his home at the beginning of 2005 found the 13 letters which he wrote to his former girlfriend and passed them to a friend, who later posted the letters online. Chen says the posted letters caused a deterioration in the relationship between himself and his current girlfriend.
Chen has already successfully sued his colleague and the colleague's friend, and he obtained CNY1 and CNY1000, respectively, as emotional compensation.
Netease has promised to remove all the concerned posts from its website once they are proven in court to have been a violation of Chen's privacy.
The case will be decided soon.
