Accused of using a reader's essay without permission to promote a popular book on its website, Joyo.com has just been asked by a Shanghai court to compensate the reader CNY20000.
A woman surnamed Chen from Shanghai says she logged onto Joyo.com to buy a book by Argentine writer
Guillermo Mordillo when she found that Joyo.com was using her previously written essay entitled "Thought Fragments on Argentina" to promote a popular book "Mordillo Caricature". Joyo.com however did not give her a byline or name the source of the article.
After receiving a call from Chen to solve the problem, Joyo.com deleted the article from its website, but it did not reply fully to her, as promised.
A month later, it used the same article again on the website, and infuriated by the behavior of Joyo.com, Chen sued Joyo.com in a Shanghai court.
