With the assistance of Huawei, Shanghai Telecom has constructed the first Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) high definition TV testing network in a residential area in Shanghai.
This is the first time that FTTH-based high definition digital TV service has been launched in China. The test network adopted Huawei's SmartAX OFA5920 FTTH equipment.
With this service, users can not only watch high-definition TV programs, but also enjoy VoIP, high-speed online surfing and fast networked computer games.
Statistics of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) shows that the number of FTTH users in China will reach 20 million by 2008.
