Wired Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI) operators and manufacturers in China held a meeting yesterday to establish a WAPI industry alliance to help promote the industrialization of WAPI.
China's WAPI standard was initiated in 2004, but its adoption was suspended many times due blocks from some international standardization organizations who preferred the 802.11i standard.
At the beginning of this year, Chinese companies Xi'an Xidian Jietong Wireless Network Communications, Shenzhen Minghua Aohan Technology, and Founder Group won government procurement approval for WAPI, a symbol that the standard was to be endorsed by the government.
WAPI has already been included as one of the six key industry standards for which the National National Development and Reform Commission will offer full support this year.
