EPCGlobal says it has developed a super-high frequency EPC standard that will lower the entry barriers of Chinese companies hoping to use RFID.
The standard drops the unit price of each RFID tag from US$0.5 to US$0.08. The code reader also declines to below US$1000.
Meanwhile, China is also pressing on making its own RFID standard to protect its information security and enterprises' interests.
According to local media, though foreign RFID groups like EPCGlobal have ambitious plans for China, the Chinese government has still not fully authorized frequencies for their respective standards.
A representative from the China RFID Standard Work Team says that when making RFID standards, the Chinese regulatory authorities will consider the compatibility between its own standard and that of foreign standards, while at the same time trying to secure national information security.
