PCCW, the largest communications service provider in Hong Kong, plans to launch a mobile phone TV broadcast service by the end of June in cooperation with the mainland's communications equipment and technology provider Huawei.
PCCW will adopt Huawei's CMB (Cell Multimedia Broadcast) technology for its new service, which compared with other mobile phone TV service, occupies less frequency.
According to PCCW, the advantage of Huawei's CMB lies in that it can provide service for 250 clients simultaneously and it costs less.
PCCW says it will notify all its clients in the next two weeks to download a new software to meet Huawei's CMB technology requirements. PCCW hopes to provide the new service to 110,000 3G mobile phone users by the end of June.
