China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) has disclosed that Bank of China, one of the four major national banks in China, will formally adopt boc.cn as its new Chinese domain name starting June 1, 2006.
Currently, the domain name of Bank of China is bank-of-china.com. This domain name will be stopped in a few months, but in the interim both will work.
A representative from CNNIC says that a simple domain name is not only effective for banks to conduct online marketing, but also effective for them to counter-act illegal imitators.
Apart from Bank of China, 14 others banks in China have also decided to use .CN domain names. And some foreign banks in the country, including Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank have also launched their .CN domain names for Chinese market.
