On June 14, about 250 meters of Beijing Netcom's communication cable in the Xiaohongmen area of Beijing's Chaoyang District was stolen.
As a result, a communications breakdown affecting 200 telephone lines and network access of more than 40 companies in the area lasted for 14 hours. The network failure began at 5AM and did not recover until 7PM in the evening.
Beijing Netcom said eight telecom poles' cables, each measuring about 30 meters, had their wires swiped.
Chaoyang District Police are currently investigating leads in the case.
