Warner Music and Chinese mobile service provider China Unicom (CHU) have signed an agreement for selling music to mobile phone users in China.
This is the first such agreement signed between a global music company and a mobile operator in China. Details of the transaction is expected to be soon released.
Alex Zubillaga, Executive Vice President, Digital Strategy and Business Development of Warner Music Group, says that digital music sales has been a key concern of his company, and the transaction with China Unicom is an important part of their strategy for music selling on a mobile platform.
This transaction between the parties may pave a new road for music sellers to create revenue in the Chinese music market, where piracy is rampant.
