China Netcom's new 350-kilometer East Asia Cable has formally been put into operation.
China Netcom's EAC, which is intended to ensure the smooth communications during the 2008 Olympic Games, is one of the key communications projects of China. It is also an addition to the Sino-Korean Cable that surrounds the Asia Pacific region.
After the completion of the project, China Netcom will provide a direct route from mainland China to all countries along the cable. Qingdao will become the only landing station for the international seabed cable in northern China.
