The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau says that by the end of next year, all ATM machines across the city will be connected to the police 110 network and be equipped with a human face identification system to help capture criminals.
By the end of October this year, more than 1000 ATMs will be linked to the database and it is expected that by the end of next year, all the more than 3000 ATMs in the city will be connected to the 110 network.
Once connected to the network, an alarm and real-time image will be sent to the police once someone is caught destroying an ATM.
At the same time, the police are studying the feasibility of installing a face identification system on ATMs, which if proven successful, will effectively help the police get important clues about escaped criminals when they come to withdraw cash at the ATMs.
