Shanghai plans to build 600 additional base stations this year to decrease the communications pressure caused by the rise of mobile phone users.
Gu Guzhong, deputy director from Shanghai Wireless Telecom Management Bureau, says that the new base stations will emit lower levels of radiation than required by the national standards.
These stations will mainly be small antenna rooms, and the Telecom Management Bureau will try not to build them atop residential buildings.
At present, there are 9000 communications base stations in Shanghai.
