SK Telecom and China Unicom (CHU) have announced a joint purchase of over one million mobile phones. This is the first major achievement that the parties have made since they reached an alliance earlier this year.
In July this year, SK acquired US$1 billion convertible bonds of China Unicom, which accounted for 6.7% of the latter's stake.
Right now, the two companies are negotiating with Samsung Electronics, Motorola and LG Electronics on purchasing six types of middle and high-end mobile phones.
Besides these major mobile phone giants, the two sides also plan to buy low-end mobile phones from other mobile phone manufacturers.
