An official from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) has said that the cost of all communications like fixed-line telephones, mobile phones and Internet must be made affordable to farmers and rural residents.
MII's Hong Jingyi made the remarks at the recent Immigrant Workers' Informationization Forum. Hong says MII is working on detailed measures to solve the high costs associated with the informationization process in the rural areas.
MII will soon require telecom service providers including China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom to try their best to further lower their prices in the rural areas so that all rural residents can benefit. In addition, in the future MII will give priority to the needs of the rural areas in allocating number and frequency resources.
