A Better Way To Get China Technology News
By Danny Levinson
ChinaTechNews.com underwent a major transformation last weekend and now we are able to streamline how we handle our increasing traffic and ability to offer new services to the thousands of readers who rely on us for timely China technology news. And after three years looking at the old template, it was time for a change.
When I started ChinaTechNews.com in 1999, it was a bi-weekly email newsletter delivered in ASCII format to about 100 people I knew working in China's technology sector. Now there are over 21,000 people on the weekly email newsletter and the newsletter has grown into a daily updated website. All these changes came about from users writing and saying that they needed this or that, and I took the best and added them to the site.
I hope these changes suit some of die-hard readers who requested the following:
- We now have full RSS feed abilities for all searches. If you search for "China Internet", you get the top results and at the bottom of the page you now have a dedicated RSS feed that constantly keeps you updated on "China Internet" news from our site. What's the cost? Free.
- On the stock page where you can search for stocks from over 20 different international stock markets, we've added some more indicators like P/E, EPS, and Average Daily Volume.
- Better wireless viewing has been accomplished through more use of CSS. Now when you read ChinaTechNews.com on your mobile phone, the pages will appear more gracefully on your little device. What's the cost? Maybe reading glasses.
- More daily news is now "apparent". In the past we would sometimes have over a dozen articles a day, but only the top four were highlighted on the website, while others had to be found on their respective category pages. Now we will highlight all the daily news directly on the front page.
Foremost, ChinaTechNews.com will continue to deliver China technology news you can't read anywhere else. This service was started 7 years ago because I saw that international media were not focusing on the movements in China that could make or break technology companies. While international business reporters were enamored by the latest portal's press release, there were machinations going on behind the scenes that would and could cause problems for investors. The information was often known by Chinese consumers and netizens, but not by overseas investors.
We are also focusing more on the latest product offerings coming out of China or that might be useful to China-based technology buyers. As many of our readers have the arduous task of deciding where they should spend their technology budget, I hope our articles and services can help.
Finally, the new look of the website also puts ChinaTechNews.com more aligned with the other online offerings from BDL Media. In addition, like ChinaHospitalityNews.com, which offers a print monthly magazine and a Chinese website, ChinaTechNews.com will begin soon a special print version. When many readers registered for the email newsletter they also entered their mailing addresses, and we are in the process of verifying all the data before starting this print magazine. Yes, I know everything's going digital, but there is always room for paper.
Continue to let us know how we are doing. We appreciate your feedback.
Thank you,
Danny Levinson
