Shanghai now has more than 60000 IPTV users since the IPTV number issuance in September 2006 and the user number in the city is expected to at least double in 2007.
In September, Shanghai Media Group launched IPTV service in Shanghai in cooperation with Shanghai Telecom. Together they offered the service at three different cost levels: CNY40 per month, CNY60 per month and CNY100 per months to cater to different demands.
Li Huaiyu, a representative from SMG's IPTV business, says that they will offer more preferential policies next year to further expand within the market.
At present, Shanghai's IPTV provides more than 70 TV programs and about 3000 hours of VOD. SMG and Shanghai Telecom hope to add more functions to the IPTV service next year.
