An unnamed official from China's Ministry of Information Industry has confirmed with local media that about ten websites including Sina.com, Sohu.com and Netease have been listed as trial websites for real name registration in China.
The official says that in the coming days, MII will issue a relevant document regarding the trial blog real name mechanism and notify relevant parties to implement those rules.
This is the latest government move made on Chinese blog website management following the discussion of blog real name systems in August and October 2006.
The official says that if everything goes smoothly, the real name mechanism will be fully adopted by the end of this year.
The real name mechanism means that users will need to provide their true name and identification number in order to register for a weblog on these blog service providers in China.
