CIIRC Received Over 140,000 Complaints In 2006

The China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Centre says received more than 140,000 reports in 2006 about illegal content online.
Madame Hu Qiheng, Chair of the Internet Society of China, says that ISC helped close some unhealthy websites in 2006. ISC also issued 429 notices to other companies for deleting illegal and harmful information, which involved a total of 2745 files.
For their part, Liu Zhengrong, director of China Internet News Information Service Work Commission, said that more than 160 websites have participated in the online campaign against illegal content since April 2006 and the Internet environment has been effectively cleaned.
Cai Mingzhao, deputy director of the Information Office of the State Council, is further calling on a self-discipline system to be included into websites' daily operation to fight against immoral online behavior.
