The Red Cross Society of China's Beijing Branch has launched an online donation platform in cooperation with e-payment service provider Yeepay.
The purpose of the new platform is to help raise funds for charitable causes in the capital city.
The first sum of the donations collected from the platform will be used to fund a school for migrant worker's children in Tongzhou District, Beijing. YeePay says that it will donate one cent from each online transaction to Beijing Red Cross and the money will be used to help families whose children are suffering from illnesses. Yeepay is responsible for providing technical support to the platform.
At present, YeePay has more than 4000 online business clients. These clients can make their donations easily when they log into Yeepay, but it is not yet so convenient for ordinary netizens to do so.
Corporate donations in China are still not provided the same tax benefits as they might be in Europe or North America. In the past, this has limited the ability of companies to make large socially responsible investments, but new laws concerning taxable donations are expected to be unveiled this year.
