According to some TD-SCDMA suppliers, the bidding for their equipment by China Mobile, which was planned to be conducted before the Spring Festival holiday, will now be postponed until March.
The first step for the TD-SCDMA bidding was previously supposed to begin on on February 9, but because the new round of network construction for TD-SCDMA is a huge project, the investment needed to be approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. However the NDRC was not satisfied with the proposed investment plan, and China Mobile had to delay the bidding.
The final plan that has been agreed on within the NDRC is for China Mobile (CHL), China Telecom (CHA) and China Netcom to invest CNY26.7 billion together for 15,000 stations. According to this plan, the price for all equipment will be increased, so it is good for TD-SCDMA suppliers.
No firm date in March has yet been set for the bidding, but suppliers are expecting it near the end of the month.
