China's Ministry of Information Industry has issued a new circular, which says from June 14, 2007, mobile phone chargers will adopt a unified access standard.
By that date, chargers of newly made mobile phones must have a unified interface before applying for network permission in China.
However, as the standard is not compulsory, big mobile phone manufacturers like Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson have not joined in the standard and this will bring some inconvenience and confusion for Chinese consumers.
In December 2006, China's Ministry of Information Industry formally released the unified standard for mobile phone chargers. MII expects with the new standard, users won't have to buy a new charger when they need to change their mobile phones because the charger will be suitable for all types of mobile phones.
