Gateway, the third largest PC manufacturer in the United States, will come to China in August 2007 with Digital China as its general agent in the country.
Gateway's entry into China has been confirmed by Digital China, and a representative from the company has disclosed to local media that they have formed a special team to get prepared for Gateway's entry into the China market, but they won't release more details about this until August.
In December 2000, it was rumored that Gateway would land in China with its China headquarters located in Shanghai. However, it is only seven years later that the company has taken a tangible step in marching into the fierce China computing market, where margins are slim.
Gateway was set up in the United States in 1985. It enjoys the same reputation with Dell and HP in the United States, however has little name value in China.
