To eliminate online pornography, more than 4000 websites in China will jointly act to filter Chinese-language websites from other countries that contain pornographic and sexually explicit words and pictures.
As of May 29, the China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Center says it received more than 450,000 reports of bad online content and half of those were about porn websites. Of those porn reports, 63% of the porn information was from Chinese-language websites hosted outside of China. Compared with those porn websites in China, Chinese language porn websites in other countries are reported to contain more diversified content, including graphics, short videos and films. CIIRC says over 4000 websites have now pledged to help eradicate links to those sites.
Li Jiaming, director of CIIRC, has told local media that most of these overseas websites rely on membership to obtain huge profits and more of them are no longer freely open to Internet users. And though they are located out of China, they have operators in domestic China to make money for them and maintain their websites.
The Chinese Banking Regulatory Commission has already asked each of the financial institutions that provide payment services for websites to strictly review the qualifications of each operator and service provider so as to make sure that they are not engaged in porn or other illegal activities. And Chinese telecom operators have also strengthened their management in the hope of regulating websites' behaviors during the stage of access and payment.
