Shanghai Media Group has launched a service called No. 5 Media tailored for mobile phone users.
This service is being run through the networks of both China Mobile and China Unicom and expected to attract about one million users by the end of this year. Currently, the new service is free to China Mobile users and CNY6 per month for China Unicom users.
SMG calls the new service No. 5 Media because it hopes users can receive the latest information within a short period of five minutes.
Shanghai Oriental Dragon Mobile Telecommunication, an affiliate of SMG, is the operator of the new service. Oriental Dragon has set up a special studio for the service and hired special hosts for the mobile phone TV programs.
