After seizing hold of the market in the coastal areas of China, Alibaba is now extending to the western part of China by setting up a branch in Chongqing.
Lv Guangyu, vice president of Alibaba, has told local media that Southwest China is an important target for Alibaba, and they set up the brand in Chongqing mainly because of the large volume of car and motorcycle component exporting firms in the area.
Alibaba's statistics show that of every 100 industrial enterprises that uses Alibaba's e-commerce platform, 11 are from Chongqing. In 2006, Chongqing's total export volume reached CNY3 billion.
