Lanzhou Mobile has mailed 60,000 SIM cards to college freshmen at 42 institutions of higher learning across Lanzhou and the telecom company says 30000 students have already activated the SIM cards.
At the end of August and right before the start of the new semester, Lanzhou Mobile discussed with each of the universities in Lanzhou and mailed the SIM cards to their freshmen free of charge along with the students' college admissions notice letter. In addition, the mobile phone company says it carefully chose the SIM card for each student and tried to have the card numbers closely related to each student's birth date.
Lanzhou Mobile also enclosed some marketing materials about their service so that the college freshmen can have a better understanding of their offerings.
