News from the Market Development Department of Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee is that about 80 websites are illegally selling Olympic goods and this has brought bad effects on the normal sales of the authorized websites.
2008eshop.cn is said to be the only official website in China that is allowed to sell goods related to the Olympics, so any other individuals or enterprises that sell Olympic goods online are deemed illegal.
Li Yanjun, director of the Legal Affairs Department of BOGOC, says that websites that sell Olympic goods without the approval of BOGOC will be fined according to their sales income and the serious violators shall be transferred to the police for punishment.
2008eshop.cn was formally launched on July 30 and in the first month after its launch it achieved a total sales revenue of CNY1.5 million. However, as a result of the selling of Olympic goods by other websites, its sale income has been declining since.
