China's Ministry of Information Industry has published an emergency notice on its official website, saying that it plans to purchase two types of "green" online filtering software.
MII refers to the software being "green" because the term signifies health and well-being. MII says in order to create a healthy and harmonious online environment and ensure the healthy growth of youngsters, it will buy two types of online filtering software with the support of the Central Civilization Office and the Ministry of Finance, and provide them online for the public to use for free.
The two types of software to be purchased are reported to be PC-based online content (text and graphic) filtering software, and they will be used by individuals and family users. Currently, there are many companies both inside and outside of China who are developing this type of online filtering software, so there should be many bidders for this project.
