China Telecom Will Merge With 20 Affiliates

China Telecom's (CHA) 2008 starts with a series of organizational reforms.
According to a notice that China Telecom issued on January 10, the company will hold a special shareholder meeting on February 25 to review and approve an agreement regarding its merger with 20 wholly-owned companies. In the meantime, the company's affiliate North Telecom Co., Ltd will be changed into North Telecom Business Department under China Telecom's direct control.
In addition, China Telecom is planning to restructure its marketing department after the Chinese Spring Festival holiday to expand the function of the department. After the establishment of the new marketing department, China Telecom will form a government and enterprise client department to focus on comprehensive information service, an Internet and value-added service department and a marketing department responsible for public service and overall coordination.
