South Korea telecom company SK Telecom has announced plans to invest US$30 million in Chinese computer game developer Qu Wei Di Yi and therefore enter the Chinese online game sector.
Ye Wei, president of QWDY, says through the cooperation with SK Telecom, they will have enough capital and gain more chances to obtain good foreign computer games so as to enter the international market. Ye disclosed that QWDY is currently preparing several types of games and the company will expand its product range with emphasis on leisure games. In addition, Ye says that they will develop several large games in the second half of this year.
Founded in August 2006, QWDY launched its first computer game Zhi Ke Di Guo in December 2007.
SK Telecom is the second largest shareholder of China Unicom. A representative from the company says that they've decided to invest in QWDY mainly because of the firm's game development abilities.
