Building on their leadership in TD-SCDMA, NXP Semiconductors and T3G Technologies announced that the next-generation 3G cellular system solution T3G7208 is now commercially available to the Chinese market.
The Nexperia cellular system solution T3G7208 — a complete solution for multimode TD-SCDMA / EDGE mobile phones — today powers the Samsung SGH-L288 handset. Special edition T3G7208 TD-SCDMA phones with added push-to-talk functionality have also been provided by Samsung to the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee.
TD-SCDMA services are now in commercial trial across eight cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. With the T3G7208-powered Samsung SGH-L288, featuring video telephony, data communication at 384 kbps downlink and 128 kbps uplink and a 2 megapixel camera, end users will be able to enjoy more multimedia and fast data transfer through the 3G networks.
"NXP is very positive about the success of the ongoing roll-out of TD-SCDMA networks across China. Commercial availability of Samsung’s TD-SCDMA phone is testament to NXP’s commitment to providing innovative handset solutions for specific market requirements," said Dan Rabinovitsj, senior VP and GM of cellular business at NXP Semiconductors. "Working closely with handset manufacturers like Samsung, NXP and T3G has executed a strategy to support deployment of next-generation 3G services in China and gain a leadership position."
"T3G has been a leader in the development of TD-SCDMA terminal technologies since the standard was in its infancy," said Johan Pross, CEO of T3G. "In collaboration with NXP, we have developed a powerful and efficient platform that enables optimal 3G performance, with ultra-low power consumption that can be delivered in ultra-small form factor devices."
