Chinese Web portal Sohu.com (SOHU) has signed an agreement with CCTV.com for rights to Internet broadcasting of the Olympics.
Dr. Charles Zhang, chairman and CEO of Sohu.com stated, "CCTV.com is the most prestigious news website based on the country's national television network, and Sohu is China's leading Internet portal. The partnership between Sohu and CCTV.com has become another important milestone between the official Internet Content Sponsor for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the official Olympic Internet/Mobile Broadcaster. This in-depth cooperation with CCTV.com, together with our proprietary peer-to-peer video steaming technology, will further enhance Sohu's competitive strength surrounding Olympic reporting and further positioned us as "the Portal of Choice" of Olympic Games for both users and advertisers."
Sohu is also the only Chinese online media company to have exclusive access to premier Olympic content. As such, Sohu announced an exclusive collaborative agreement with the nation's top 15 newspapers in setting up a media alliance for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The members of the alliance will join Sohu's journalist team and share their resources to provide extensive Olympics-related coverage and reporting. In addition, each member will commit to promote Sohu's unique status and strengths surrounding the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
